Also, it can be explained as a vehicle’s built-in self-diagnostic system. When your vehicle has an internal issue, it would normally pop up a malfunction indicator light on your dashboard, telling you to visit a mechanic and get the issue fixed. In the past, this light would just indicate, but it was not possible to identify what the issue was. But nowadays, the OBD-II built inside vehicles, allows you to identify the exact problem of the vehicle by connecting an OBD-II reader to the OBD-II 16-pin connector built inside the vehicle. Through this, it's possible to read OBD-II codes which are also known as Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) which are helpful in understanding the issues, without needing to completely disassemble the vehicle.OBD-II was first introduced in the United States in 1994 and became a requirement for all 1996 and newer US vehicles. Other countries, including Canada, parts of the European Union, Japan, Australia, and Brazil adopted similar legislation. A large portion of the modern vehicle fleet supports OBD-II or one of its regional flavors. How This Kit Can be Used for OBD-II?This kit is the perfect solution for you to communicate with your vehicle's OBD-II interface without visiting a mechanic. It includes a Serial CAN Bus module [ https://www.seeedstudio.com/Serial-CAN-BUS-Module-based-on-MCP2551-and-MCP2515.html ] , an OBD-II Connector, and other accessories to help you do all the diagnostics and data logging with ease. We also provide a tutorial that is based on Arduino and you can easily obtain data from your vehicle by following this tutorial. What are OBD-II PIDs?OBD-II PIDs(Parameter IDs) are a set of codes that are used to request data from a vehicle. Through OBD-II PIDs, you can obtain vehicle data such as speed, throttle position, and RPM of the engines. Please click here to explore a list of standardized OBD-II PIDs for your reference [ https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/OBD-II_PIDs ] .NoteThis kit doesn't include a controller board. If you'd like it with an extra GPS function: OBD-II CAN Bus GPS Development Kit [ https://www.seeedstudio.com/OBD-II-CAN-Bus-GPS-Development-Kit-p-2868.html ] : A NEO-6 GPS breakout is seated on the base board allowing you to track your vehicle with this fantastic small module by logging the GPS data to a microSD card.
